ComArchive is leading in terms of data compression technology for e-mails and e-mail attachments – while retaining data integrity. The vision of ComArchive is for our customers to have all e-mails always available in a searchable format. Even with the best of data compression technology that does demand disk space. As a guideline ComArchive recommends that you calculate to keep the present seize of your Microsoft Exchange installation and let the future growth of the data volumes happens in the ComArchive Solution. By taking that approach you can continue with your existing procedures for backup and maintenance. There is nothing that hinders you from immediately start minimize the Microsoft Exchange Server storage if you are in need of minimizing the pressure on the Microsoft Exchange Server, or you can do it gradually in a pace that suits your organization. Remember to control the ComArchive archiving status (you can do that through the ComArchive Control Panel) prior to removing data from your Microsoft Exchange Server. Gartner Group estimates that 70% of corporate knowledge is stored in companies’ mail store, but interesting enough only 5% of that knowledge is “active”/used at any given point in time. Research has shown that the activity of knowledge items (e-mails) diminish over time so it makes good sense for companies to keep “fresh” data in the Exchange Server and let people toss around with it (remember at ComArchive keeps track of the information while it’s in the Exchange storage) and gradually move data to the archive over time, while still making it accessible and searchable. With ComArchive installed you can follow exactly that approach.
