The basics

Does it requires any hardware?

No. It is a pure software solution.

Do you move my Exchange or do I get a new Exchange Server?

No. The ComArchive application is designed for the scenario where you have your own Exchange Server. Your Exchange Server could be hosted locally or with a hosting provider. The ComArchive Amazon Elastic Server does not include an Exchange Server. The only thing that gets transferred between your Exchange Server and the ComArchive Amazon Elastic Server is email data.

Does ComArchive delete or move data from my Exchange?

No. All Exchange data resides locally untouched within your Exchange server after they are archived. Once Exchange data is securely archived you can safely delete data from your Exchange Server. Microsoft Exchange Server has excellent tools for providing that service. Please note that deleting data from the Exchange server is something that must be done with care and only a task for companies holding a commercial license of ComArchive.

Does ComArchive change the behavior of Microsoft Exchange?

No. ComArchive does not change or delete any program features of Microsoft Exchange. Continue using Microsoft Exchange has normal.

Does ComArchive change behavior of my Outlook clients?

No. ComArchive does not change or delete any program features of Microsoft Outlook. ComArchive is a client server application. The archiving processes and storage of archived data is managed by your Amazon Elastic Server. In order for End Users to browse and use archived emails, you can either utilize our web client or/and you can install our Outlook plug-in (ComArchive for Outlook). The ComArchive for Outlook plug-in is a light weight plug-in, that only searches, displays and receives data from the email archived on the Amazon Elastic Server.

Is it safe?

Yes. The Amazon Elastic Server with the ComArchive software included, has a standard Windows Server as the main engine. With your VPN connections setup as described in the documentation, you will have established a virtual private cloud that includes your Amazon Elastic Server. All communication will happen through the secure and encrypted VPN tunnel. The ComArchive application is on a daily basis used by thousands of users. ComArchive is developed by ComArchive a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner. The ComArchive product has been tested and has passed all available Windows base tests.

Is my email data shared with anyone?

No. It is your private cloud. ComArchive and Amazon do not have access to your data or any content of your private cloud.

Do I share storage with other ComArchive customers?

No. It is your private cloud. Archived email data is hosted in your private cloud. ComArchive and Amazon do not have access to your data or any content of your private cloud.

What will it cost?

Trial customers do not pay for using the ComArchive Software. Trial versions of ComArchive are available for 30 days. Using the Amazon services is charged by the hour and is an agreement between you and Amazon. When you decide to pay the ComArchive email archiving facility prices are on our website. Prices start from as little as USD 5 per user per year (depending on the number of users and currency rates).

Can I setup ComArchive for a few users to start with?

Yes. You control how many users should have Email archiving and you control if, when and how the archiving should take place. You can always stop the archiving process without loss of data.

What's the difference Cloud solution and on premises?

None. The functionality is exactly the same.

Can I move from Cloud solution to inhouse on premises soltion?

Yes. The functionality is exactly the same. Some customers uses the Cloud solution as the trial area for new applications. If you at some point wish to transfer from the Cloud to on premisis, you simply transfer the data and reinstall ComArchive on you local Windows server.

How do I move from trial to production?

You buy a ComArchive commercial license. Enter the new license in the ComArchive Administration Tool and you are done. If you like to change your AWS setup based on the experience with the trial period, we recommend that you read our production setting guide and start a new AWS EC2 instance.

Recommended knowledge

Firewall(s), Router(s), Domain Controller(s) and DNS Servers?

You need to have access and knowledge about your firewall(s), router(s) and domain controller(s). You will need that in order to setup a secure VPN tunnel between the Amazon EC2 Cloud and your private network.
You should be familiar with, or have knowledge about, how to setup and control Windows Servers Operating systems (Windows 2003 and/or Windows 2008).
You must have a basic understanding of your DNS Server(s), Exchange Server(s) and Microsoft Outlook.
