ComArchive goes BPOS

When migrating to Microsoft Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) use ComArchive to be compliant, optimize migration and to reduce the overall costs of your cloud computing environments.

ComArchive, the easiest Email Archiving solution for Microsoft Exchange Server, is excited to announce that ComArchive now supports archiving of email from Microsoft Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS) and other hosted email services, using the Exchange Web Services (EWS) protocol.

“For the latest months we have focused our development on being able to support any operational setup our customers would choose. Whether our customers want to run their Exchange Server and their e-mail archiving solution on premises, hosted or in the cloud, ComArchive is their first choice. The reasons for choosing ComArchive are performance, efficiency and price. We have delivered solutions to all kinds of businesses, both small and large, and they have had success because ComArchive is email archiving made easy. You can install and setup ComArchive in 1 hour, no matter what operational setup you choose.” – says  Svend Frandsen, CEO ComArchive.

“Avis Car Rental Scandinavia have used ComArchive for several years and we are now upgrading our ComArchive installation to the new version which enables Exchange Web Services in accessing the Exchange Server. In the process of migrating our users we were able to archive from our on premises and our BPOS Exchange Server at the same. By doing this we can migrate to BPOS and maintain compliance with ComArchive. Our end users continues to use the ComArchive high speed search to access their older emails and we have been able to dramatically reduce the amount of data that we had to migrate to BPOS, and thereby reducing the time spend on migrating and the costs of our cloud computing environments.” – says Peter Madsen, IT-Director  Avis Scandinavia.

Exchange Web Services (EWS) differs from the traditional Microsoft Exchange protocol (MAPI) in that it allows for use over any network topology, including the open Internet. This is especially important when using Microsoft Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS), which is only available via the Internet. Exchange Web Services (EWS) is the Microsoft-preferred way to access Microsoft Exchange Server

2007 and 2010, and uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Extensible Markup Language (XML); both well-known and open, industry standard protocols.

The use of Exchange Web Services (EWS) allows for a variety of innovative and flexible scenarios for Email Archiving, including:

  • Cloud Archiving - where an on-premises Microsoft Exchange Server is archived into the cloud (for example to a server hosted in Amazon Web Services, or another hosting provider) providing off-site disaster recovery and usage-based payment.
  • Local Archiving of a cloud-based Microsoft Exchange service; bringing important email information into the security of the local network, while maintaining the flexibility of the cloud for day-to-day email use. An example of this is archiving a system based on Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS), or another off-premises hosted Microsoft Exchange system to an on-premises server. This scenario could also be used to archive email data before a migration to the cloud; potentially saving companies significant cloud storage costs for email, while still allowing full access to historic email content.
  • Archiving of remote sites using existing Internet infrastructure, rather than expensive dedicated WAN links.

These are just some of the benefits that using an archiving solution which supports Exchange Web Services (EWS) provides. There are a large number of scenarios which are now possible when using an Exchange Web Services (EWS)-based archiving solution such as ComArchive.

ComArchive still supports traditional MAPI-based Email Archiving in addition to Exchange Web Service-based Email Archiving, and can even use the same archive database and existing users. It is possible for a single user to have email being archived from both a local exchange server and a cloud server simultaneously; providing maximum flexibility in deployment, planning and migration scenarios.
